A car exploded Monday near New Delhi’s historic Red Fort, killing at least eight people and injuring several others. The blast ignited a fire that destroyed multiple nearby vehicles, according to city police. Authorities quickly cordoned off the area and began rescue operations.

Fire Crews Battle Flames After Blast

Fire engines sped to the scene after reports of an explosion near a Red Fort metro station gate. Firefighters battled the blaze as emergency teams pulled victims from the wreckage. Officials said the fire damaged several parked cars before they brought it under control.

Police spokesman Sanjay Tyagi confirmed the casualties and said investigators were working to determine what triggered the explosion. “We are investigating the cause of the blast,” he said.

    Witnesses Describe Chaos and Shock

Residents near the site reported hearing a massive “window-shattering sound” before flames erupted. Local media showed video of wrecked vehicles and officers sealing off the area. The Red Fort, once an imperial palace and now a major tourist site, stood surrounded by flashing lights as investigators examined the scene late into the night.
