Los Angeles FC star Son Heung-min has become the second-highest earner in Major League Soccer, with an annual salary of $10.4 million and total compensation of $11.2 million, trailing only Lionel Messi.
Son joined LAFC in August after more than a decade at Tottenham Hotspur and scored nine goals in 10 MLS matches. Messi, who plays for Inter Miami, leads the league with a $12 million salary and $20.4 million total compensation, not including separate marketing or bonus deals.
Messi’s new Miami contract runs through 2028. His teammate Rodrigo De Paul earns $1.5 million in salary and $3.6 million in total pay.
Other major summer signings include Hirving “Chucky” Lozano (San Diego, $7.6m total), Jonathan Bamba (Chicago, $5.6m), Wilfried Zaha (Charlotte, $2.8m), Thomas Müller (Vancouver, $1.4m), Wessam Abou Ali (Columbus, $2.2m), and Milan Iloski (Philadelphia, $552k).
