Global climate pledges fall far short, UN warns

New climate plans from over 60 countries would cut global emissions by only 10% by 2035, far below what’s needed to limit warming to 1.5C, according to a UN report.

UN climate chief Simon Stiell urged countries to act faster, saying progress was “far too slow.” Major emitters China and the EU have yet to submit final plans, while the US target under Joe Biden is uncertain after Donald Trump’s pledge to exit the Paris deal again.

The findings come ahead of Cop30 in Brazil next month, where leaders will face pressure to boost ambition and funding for developing nations. Analysts warn that weak pledges from big polluters are undermining global climate goals.
