Thigh Injury Could Sideline Arsenal’s Gabriel Magalhães for a Month or More

Arsenal are bracing for a major setback as Gabriel Magalhães faces at least a month out with a thigh injury suffered on international duty with Brazil. The defender limped off during Brazil’s 2-0 win over Senegal at the Emirates and has since undergone further tests with the club.

Although assessments are still ongoing, Gabriel is expected to miss the north London derby against Tottenham on Sunday and the Champions League clash with Bayern Munich. Depending on the severity, he could also be ruled out of league fixtures against Chelsea, Brentford and Aston Villa, plus the Champions League trip to Club Brugge on 10 December.

The 27-year-old has played every minute of Arsenal’s Premier League season so far, anchoring a defence that has conceded only five goals in 11 matches. His absence arrives at a crucial point in Arsenal’s title push, with the team holding a four-point lead over Manchester City.

New signings Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié are candidates to step in for Gabriel, while the squad continues to be stretched. Viktor Gyökeres remains doubtful with a hamstring issue, and Kai Havertz has suffered what Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann described as a “minor relapse” in his knee injury recovery. Captain Martin Ødegaard, Noni Madueke and Gabriel Martinelli are also sidelined.

With multiple key players unavailable, Arsenal’s squad depth—reinforced by more than £250m of summer spending—is about to face its toughest test of the season.
